The book is essentially two essays, one written in the form of a letter to his 14 year old nephew, the other discussing religion and its impact on the black community.
If you are from Haiti or have travelled there, this will likely be a glorious read for you, reading about traditions and places you can picture or relate to. There are many descriptions of the beautiful people and places and snippets of Haitian creole that I’m sure could feel like home,
Very interesting crime drama, telling the story only from the perspective of the accused. The story moves at a good pace, not too fast where you think you can figure it out if only it would slow down.
Danny is a young ambitious man that yearns to be a race car driver. We meet him and his dog Enzo, as he is coming out of a hard time as described by Enzo, the dog. Enzo is actually our narrator in the story.
A lot of twists and turns with this one as Brown leans heavily on thrills and goes a little light in the romance area. I wasn’t disappointed whatsoever.
I enjoyed the fast-pace of the story. The trick of allowing us to get to know, and even like, the victims before the murders? Coldblooded Patterson! But, the technique worked. I was hooked, and no matter the obstacle thrown in Cooks way, (and there were many!)
The story is about a group of friends that while on a hunting trip, angers a strong spirit. It takes a while but, the spirit comes looking for them to exact her vengeance.
